We're a group of self-employed people who have small independent businesses and are rooted in our community and offer a vast range of services and opportunities just a stone's throw away from one another. Please adhere to the Welsh Government's Covid-19 guidance when visiting our businesses.
Jack, Finn & Steff - Siop y Garreg Y Garreg is a village shop, a traditional sourdough bakery and a cafe restaurant run by three brothers and an incredible team of local staff. But it is a lot more than that, it is a public space, a community touchpoint - a place where conversations, meetings and good moments happen that might not otherwise exist. These moments are the fabric and glue of a community. Our philosophy is to do things the right way, the ethical way, usually the difficult way, and the rest comes naturally. Good food, a warm, welcoming and inclusive space, creativity and a vision for ourselves and the community we live in. Watch this space as we expand our arts and music events, keeping community at the heart of what we do, and before long, maybe even a sourdough pizza restaurant. Catrin - Teithiau cerdded a natur When I take people out on walks, I thoroughly enjoy sharing the fact that we are blessed to live in an area like this. Teaching people about nature and what you can do with the things you find – from food to natural medicine, being outdoors is healthy and a great opportunity to chat. I'm a Welsh tutor so there's a chance to practice the language too. Mirain - Llety Cymreig Taldraeth Since I was young, I have had a great interest in cookery, textiles and antiques. The opportunity came to buy Yr Hen Ficerdy (The Old Vicarage) in Penrhyndeudraeth, to realise my dream of providing a quality service Welsh guesthouse. The building, built in 1858 and its connection to the quarry industry, has great history and character. The location was a great spot to bring up a family, and a stone's throw away from where I was brought up. I had previous experience of renovating houses and letting self-catering accommodation and giving visitors a warm welcome. The fact that I offer a truly Welsh welcome introducing our traditions, culture and our language to the world is very important to me – from local, homemade meals and old Welsh furniture dating back to the 17th century, paintings of north Wales, Welsh pottery, blankets, duvets as well as Welsh wool mattresses made in Wales. There is a story behind every item that adds value to the atmosphere and essence.
Llinos - Language Tutor Here, we are raised, educated and we live each day through the Welsh language. Having been a professional language tutor for 10 years, I now earn a living from teaching Welsh to people from all four corners of the world and here on my own doorstep in Croesor, Llanfrothen and Penrhyndeudraeth. I offer short sessions to get you on your way or longer courses to get you fluent in my mother tongue. I have many an interesting course in mind to develop in the near future, so you're more than welcome to get in touch. Sian – Artist To me creating art is a necessity, the benefits are vast and wide such as communicating, possibly relieving mental strain, escaping to distract from our problems and expressing emotions are but a few. Here at my studio based on the side of the Moelwyn mountain range, I welcome visitors to paint along side with me. Olwen - Fferm y Llan I am the third generation to farm Llan Farm, a traditional beef and sheep farm, keeping various native breeds of cattle and sheep. Half the farm is at sea level, protected by the Cob sea wall in Porthmadog, and the rest rises to Rhyd, 500feet. The farm sells pure bred cattle and sheep, beef and lamb meat boxes, and runs hands on courses with cattle and sheep. Agricultural, environmental, and conservation discussion sessions are available (from a practical farming viewpoint), and the history of the farm and its surroundings. Daeth y cyfle i brynu’r Hen Ficerdy ym Mhenrhyndeudraeth, gyda’r freuddwyd o ddarparu gwasanaeth safonol o lety Cymreig. Mae yna hanes a chymeriad i’r adeilad a adeiladwyd yn 1858 sy’n gysylltiedig a’r diwydiant llechi. Roedd y lleoliad yn ddelfrydol i fagu teulu, sydd hefyd gerllaw fy nghartref lle fy magwyd i. Roeddwn efo profiad blaenorol o adnewyddu tai a gosod llety hunan ddarpar a chynnig croeso cynnes i ymwelwyr. Mae’r ffaith fy mod yn cynnig gwir groeso Cymreig gan ddangos ein traddodiadau, diwylliant a’n hiaith i’r byd yn bwysig iawn i mi – o’r bwyd cartref a lleol i’r hen ddodrefn Cymreig sy’n dyddio’n ol i’r 17fed Ganrif, peintiadau o ogledd Cymru, crochenwaith Cymreig, blancedi, dwfes a matresi gwlan Cymreig wedi’i gwneud yng Nghymru. Mae yna stori tu ol I bob eitem sy’n ychwanegu gwerth at yr awyrgylch a’r naws.
Bev - Oriel Caffi Croesor I love running Caffi Croesor. I enjoy meeting people and welcoming them to this beautiful place we live in. As an artist myself, I also enjoy talking to people about art especially work exhibited here. I exhibit my work, both paintings and textile work in the gallery upstairs here at the Caffi. The landscape in Cwm Croesor continues to influence my art. I am currently learning Welsh and the Caffi allows me the opportunity to use the language whenever I can. Lauren - Pilates Pilates is not just exercise, It's not just random choice of different movements. Pilates is a system of physical & mental conditioning that can enhance your physical strength, flexibility, & co-ordination as well as reduce stress, improve focus, postural alignment, and improve a sense of well-being. Pilates can be for anyone and everyone... I first started attending Pilates classes while on a ski season in Morzine , France, after a few sessions I started to feel stronger and noticing the way I moved more often , after a few more sessions you could actually see the benefits, I became more toned and my posture started to improve. The instructor that we had was so inspirational that I never stopped going to classes when I returned to Wales , and thought to myself, that's what I want to do.

Dewi - Siop Dewi I have been running the shop since 1979, although it was here 40 years before that. The shop is and always has been central to the area of Penrhyndeudraeth and we serve the whole community - from Penrhyndeudraeth, to Llanfrothen, to Maentwrog and Talsarnau. As well as selling newspapers, Welsh and English language books about the area, fruit and vegetables, we also try our best to provide eco-friendly products and promote recycling. We are very grateful for the constant support from the local community.    All Photography © Lara Usherwood Photography 2020 - lara1307@hotmail.co.uk
Sam, Richard, Aron – Môr a Mynydd and Pearson Farming Our aim at Môr a Mynydd, our chip shop and family business in Penrhyndeudraeth, is to offer high quality meat to our local community. The beef for our burgers and steaks is reared at the foothills of Cnicht and Moelwynion in Croesor from native breed cattle and it is our priority to support local farmers, such as Glastraeth lamb which is only a stone's throw away from Penrhyn high street on the banks of the Dwyryd and more, to supply our shop. We always try to vary the meals available on our menu, be it meat or fish and offering a wide range of meals is something that our local community value. Selling meat directly to the customer is important to us too. Our company, Pearson Farming is pioneering in the field of food traceability in using a brand new QR code system to label our meat produce. It is of utmost importance to us that the customer is aware of the history of the meat on their plate. The local community is at the root of everything we do and we are proud that two of us (Richard and Aron) also run another business, R Pearson Tree Services that specialises in tree surgery and forestry. This too providing job opportunities in the area of course.
